More about

Loomis Chaffee

Overview

The Loomis Family Homestead, built by Joseph Loomis in 1639, sits atop a hill on 300 acres in Windsor, Connecticut, overlooking the confluence of the pastoral Farmington and Connecticut rivers. Directly across the street is an elegant brick Georgian home, the residence of the Head of The Loomis Chaffee School. These two striking homes, nearly 300 hundred years separating their construction, provide a gateway to Founders Hall and the magnificent quadrangle beyond, and they epitomize the essence of the school: a profound respect for tradition and the legacy of the founders, a sustained commitment to fulfill the vision they created, and a shared anticipation of even brighter horizons beyond.

Curriculum at Loomis Chaffee

A Loomis education is built on the pillars of excellence and opportunity. We provide a rigorous academic environment where excellence is both modeled and expected, and we offer abundant opportunities for you to nurture your intellectual curiosity. Choose from over 180 courses, including almost 60 on the AP and advanced level, and take advantage of experiential learning programs through independent study (ISP), co-curricular projects, off-campus study, and international travel. And if your passion lies with global studies, our Global Studies Certificate program is perfect for you. The breadth and depth of the Loomis curriculum and our innovative faculty will prepare you well for college and beyond while inspiring you to push the limits of your perceived abilities.

Living On Campus

Choosing to move away from home and attend a boarding school is a major decision for you and your family. Whether you start your Loomis career as a freshman or a post-graduate, your high school years are full of possibilities, growth, and self-discovery—it can be exciting one minute and overwhelming the next. The faculty at Loomis recognizes this and has created a welcoming, comfortable, and safe environment for you to live and learn, a place where you have the freedom to explore your independence and pursue your passions with the support and guidance of caring adults.

Dining and the SNUG

At Loomis, the dining hall is a place to gather with friends for good food and conversation. Our food service, ARAMARK, creates menus inspired by our community, ranging from lentil tomato garam masala soup, vegetable empanadas, jambalaya, and Middle Eastern falafel to Thai BBQ chicken pizza and Portobello whole wheat pizza. Salad and sandwich bars are also available as well as gluten-free and vegetarian options, an ice cream machine, and various other snacks available to grab on the way out of the dining hall. We hope that at Loomis your dining experience is more than just great food. If you have dietary restrictions, Loomis Dining Services offers dietary accommodations based on religious situations or specific food allergies. Our Food Service Director Fred Aransky is available to review weekly menus and introduce substitutes to accommodate these situations.

Student Activities

At Loomis a wide range of student clubs and activities augment the many opportunities you will find in the classrooms, on the athletic fields, on the stage, in the art and dance studios, and in the music performance hall. It is our hope that as you become more involved, you are able to enrich your experience on the Island and make your time at LC something to remember. Ultimately, it’s important that  you have fun while you’re here! You will not only benefit from a rich and diverse academic life, but also a social one.  We work to create a community environment that encourages all students to connect and relate to one another and have fun! You will enjoy a wide range of activities, from theater, dance, and musical performances to helping out a community in need or bonding with classmates from a different culture.
